I haven’t used Visual Studio for a long time. It seems like the logo has been changed in Visual Studio 2010 to new curved design. I’ve always loved the Möbius strip logo from VS1997(5.0). I think the shape – modular blocks are constructing harmonized object – resembles the concept of programming. At the same time, it can be thought of as symbol for infinity – infinite creativity and possibility.
비주얼스튜디오를 한동안 사용하지 않았습니다만, 최근에 Windows Phone 7 SDK를 설치하면서 보니 로고 디자인이 바뀌었군요. 개인적으로 비주얼스튜디오97(5.0)부터 뫼비우스의 띠 형태의 로고 디자인을 좋아했습니다. 여러 모듈로 이루어진 입체 블럭들이 조화롭게 맞추어져 완성된 조형물을 이루어 낸다는 형상이 프로그래밍이라는 과정과 유사한데, 동시에 무한대를 나타내는 형상이기도 해서 창조적인 무한한 가능성이라는 의미로도 볼 수 있을 것 같습니다.

1997년도부터의 로고. 프랭클린고딕을 기반으로한 서체를 사용중인데, 저는 로고의 컬러조합과 입체적인 느낌을 아주 좋아했습니다. 몇몇 비주얼스튜디오 시리즈의 제품군에는 3차원적으로 그려진 로고들도 있었지요.
From VS2005, with new Microsoft’s corporate branding identity typeface ‘Segoe’ which gives feeling of milder, lighter and faster then previous typeface. Segoe also feels like ‘Myriad’ which is branding typeface of Apple. (Segoe is actually Frutiger forgery)
비주얼스튜디오 2005부터 마이크로소프트의 새로운 브랜딩 서체인 Segoe라는 서체를 사용하였는데, 전반적으로 기존 서체의 무거움을 덜어내고 부드럽고 날렵한 느낌을 줍니다. 애플사의 브랜딩 서체인 미리어드(Myriad)와도 유사하다고 느꼈는데, 역시나 찾아보니 Frutiger의 변형 서체라고 합니다. (Frutiger와 Myriad는 아주 유사하죠)

2010년판의 새로운 로고 – 곡선형 스타일과 청색/보라색의 조화로 바뀌었습니다. 신뢰성/기술/창조와 밀접한 컬러지요.
Tried with ITC Franklin Gothic. As you can see, Segoe is similar to the combination of Frutiger and Myriad. You can also see the transition from heavy and strong Franklin Gothic to medium.
ITC Franklin Gothic으로 셋팅해보았습니다. Frutiger와 Myriad로 만들어보니 역시 Segoe와 많이 닮았습니다. 초기의 Heavy한 Franklin Gothic에서 Medium으로의 변화도 알 수 있습니다.
